Horses have always been part of Marions life from an early age. She grew up through the Pony Club, learning the thrills & spills of riding, hunting and hunter trials. On the showjumping circuit Marion progressed from 12.2 up 13.2-14.2. Ending her pony career winning a team gold in Hannover, Germany in 1984 on the 7 year old pony thoroughbred pony ‘Bright Ruby’. Marion enjoyed her time with ponies as it allowed her to jump internationally getting great exposure at top level.

Marion’s farher Seamus had a great passion for breeding good horses. With a long term breeding plan he kept back the good mare, built up stock and had the confidence to succeed.

Horses such as Special Envoy – Nelson & Rodrigo Pessoa, Nelson also won the Hickstead & Hamburg Derby with Vivaldi. World Cup Winner in Millstreet with Jessica Chesney (now Kurten) was Diamond Exchange. You will find more information on our successes on our past horses by clicking here.

Marion established herself on the senior international stage with her mount Flo Jo by winning the Queens Cup at Hickstead in 1995 and 1996. In 1999 she was victorious in the Belgian Queen’s Cup at Mechelen Christmas Show aboard Heritage Voar D’Isigni. That year was particuarly successful as Marion competed at the Belgium Nations Cup Show. She also had several successful outings on the Iberian Show Circuit and was a member of the Irish show jumping team who finished second itn the Nations Cup (Aga Khan Trophy) at the Dublin Horse Show where she jumped a double clear with Heritage Charlton. This was also the year she finished in 10th place with Heritage Charlton in the European Championships at Hickstead (UK).

Marions great horses included Flo Jo, Carnival Bouncer, Heritage Poker, Heritage Voar D'Isigni. Heritage Fortunus, Heritage Transmission, Oh Jessie and Galileo. These last two owned by the close friend Bernardo Moniz Da Maia and won many competions between them including Bordeaux, Geneva, St Lo. In 2004 Marion competed in the Athens Olympics riding the Stallion Heritage Fortunus. She was second the same year in the Saint Lo Grand Prix in France and came third in the Eindhoven Grand Prix. She was an Irish team member in the Super League, and jumped clear rounds in both Rotterdam and Lucerne riding Heritage Fortunus.

With Heritage Transmission after winning the 4 year old Championship in The Royal Dublin Horse Show, they went on to win the 6 & 7 year old Cavan Classic before hitting the international scene where they performed the only double clear in the Nations Cup in Hickstead after being second in the Grand Prix in Falsterbo. She also won the Grand Prix in Vimeiro and the Grand Prix in Vilamoura.

Recently with the young horse Heritate Cashmere they won the Premier Series Grand Prix at Ballina and Blessington and placed 2nd in Omagh. They also finished 3rd at the Grand Prix in Vilamoura.

Marion now devotes her time to producing young horses bred at the Hughes Horse Stud to International level ready for International Riders all over the globe.

Miguel does not descend from a horsey background. However since his early days he has been a lover of the sport of showjumping. He developed in the a real flair for the sport of showjumping after being based with Thomas Fuchs and Ted & Liz Edgar for a period of time.

In 1995 Miguel competed in his first European Championship in St Gallen with Heritage Poker. After this he became a real player on the international scene with Heritage Charlton, Heritage Vaor, Heritage Poker, Heritage Clover Z, Heritage Cashmir and the stallion Heritage Fortunus.

In 2003 he had a successful Nations Cup tour which included:

  • Linz CSIO, Austria
  • Pozan CSIO, Poland
  • Bratislava CSIO
  • Budapest CSIO, Hungary
  • Ascona CSI, Switzerland
  • Lisbon CSIO, Portugal
With Heritage Fortunus he then went on to compete at the European Championships in Donaushengen, Germany having being selected for the Portuguese Team, under the watchful eye of the Team Coach Thomas Fuchs.

Miguels biggest results to date have been shared with his successful partner Heritage Charlton. These include:

  • 1st Grand Prix in Berne
  • 2nd Grand Prix in Mechelen
  • 2nd in the Iberian Tour which included the Grand Prix's of Lisbon, Madrid and Barcelona
  • 2nd Millstreet Derby
  • 3rd Grand Prix Barcelona
  • 4th World Cup Qualifier Geneva
  • 4th Grand Prix Wembley
  • 4th Grand Prix Milan
  • 6th Grand Prix Lisbon
  • 6th Grand Prix Liechenstein
Miguel, as Marion, now concentrates mainly on producing homebred young horses, such as Heritage Fortuna, the highly talented 8 year old who has already been introduced to 1.50m Grand Prix's among others bred at the Hughes Horse Stud. These include HHS Acorado, HHS Touch Of Grey, HHS Pinky, HHS Apache and HHS Fafa

Miguel is well know for always being in 'good humour' as you can see from this video below he enjoys life....
